Is the consensus that Borden's paste wood filler is about the best filler for cork these days?

Ken,
Doubt you will ever get consensus where this kind of thing is concerned.
many folks think the charm of the cork is in the small holes others like to fill.

If i have to fill them, I like to use one of the powder type flooring industry wood fillers of an appropriate color.
Woodwise in light oak is my choice lately mainly because i had some left over from some other project.
There are probably better ones.
Depending on what i am doing: i wet it with either Cork Seal if new cork or the stainable Elmers Glue where i want to tint it to match an old cork handle.
The elmers is lasting longer but the number of rods is too low to be sure, it may be more rod user related.
Regular elmers plus powder wood filler is not stainable by me.
My own rods? Well if the cork is too messed up to provide grip i use Xwrap shrink tubing and be done with it. Or build a new one.

I save the cork dust from my reaming and mix it with Titebond III. Matches the cork color better & not hard to sand down smooth.

You can get the kind that falls out now, or falls out later. Most of the wood fillers just fall out over time.
