Everyone that uses madeira should know about the silicon issue and what to do about it. Some spools seem to have more than others and occasionally there's patches with even more on it. I was doing some black overbinding the other day and noticed quite a few blocthes in the wrap. As it was black it stood out more and I didn't like the look of it. It hasn't caused me any issues after finish application previously but it was a long overwrap and didn't want to take the chance. Used some isoprophyl on a rag to clean it off and it looked much better. The application of cp negated any effects the alcohol could have had on the finish and the end result was pretty good. Something you can use if it causes you a problem.

Careful with using alcohol, I know DNA will wipe the color off some threads.

Thanks for that but it didn't make any difference on that one, black 1800 and there was no colour on the rag. I'd only do it if I thought the blotches of silicon were going to cause a difference in colour along the wrap after finish.
