I had a customer bring in a rod that he had build a few years ago. the builder put the customers name on the rod and now the guy wants to sell it. he wants me to remove the name.
the signature is framed on both sides by a wrap and is covered with several layers of epoxy. my question is what's the best way. 1. try sanding the epoxy down until I get the signature off and then recoat with new epoxy. 2. make a fine cut through the top of the epoxy layers just in from the wraps and try heating the old stuff and remove it and then recoat with new. 3. other ideas? Thanks Re: removing signture

Hello Gary.
I would just sand it smooth then re-wrap over it and then epoxy it. If the epoxy on it now is reel thick, sand it down quite a bit re-wrap and epoxy it. Heck sand it smooth then put a tiger wrap over it. Whatever you want. Bob, New Bern, NC. Re: removing signture

Easy Fix! Scuff area, apply one coat of black paint, let dry, apply one coat of epoxy finish.

Hi, Gary,
I do the same as Bill "It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so." Mark Twain John in Wethersfield, CT Re: removing signture

DR has a great idea, I think I would try that first. Tape off the areas not to recieve paint nice and straight and you should be good to go.

If you're going to paint the area black and epoxy over, it might be an idea to seal the paint with cp first to avoid any contamination (fish eyes) from the paint. But i think i'd go with either roberts suggestion - sand, re-wrap and epoxy, or bill boettchers suggestion. Jersey, Channel Islands. (U.K.) Re: removing signture

or you could just wrap black thread over it and then a new coat of epoxy Re: removing signture
