underwrapping guides on a saltwater fly rod

I am iin the process of building a 12wt. fly rod that I am taking to Mexico with me next month. I have always underwrapped my guides for my saltwater rods. I personally think that underwrappping is better for the blank. My questions to all, has anyone seen any issues with underwrapping guides on a saltwater fly rod? Does it affect the action of the rod.
Thanks,

It's absolutely unnecessary.

The only downside is some slight loss of performance due to the additional weight. A rod as powerful as most in that category will not be overly affected so while not necessary, it won't carry any huge sort of penalty.

I would agree with Tom on this point. Even though salt water fly rods are substantial, no need to add any extra weight with an under wrap. Fly rods don't use the type of guides that require under wraps compared to a stand-up boat rod. Tom would probably assert that underwraps aren't necessary on those rods either but they are more customary.

Use less weight ---- just prep the guide feet - well
