The blank doesn't care what you make it into, if the line/lure/action/power ratings meet your needs, then build away. Two of my personal favorite casting rods where built on blanks listed by the manufacturer as spinning blanks.

The designation "spinning" or "casting" applied to a blank is a marketing ploy rather than useful information. This is true of many, if not most labels used in marketing descriptions of rod blanks and rods. The best and most reputable blank manufacturers use these essentially non-informative but attractive labels. Compare the listed physical characteristics of two blanks of the same model by the same manufacturer, one blank listed as a spinning blank, the other listed as a casting blank. Odds are the two will be physically identical.
