I have a Cabelas backpacking fly rod model: Stowaway length 8' 6" 5 wt. five piece. Unfortunately this last summer on a backpacking trip to Alice Lake in WY, with our scout troop, I was teaching a scout how to fly fish. The lake area is notorius for having big horse flies that bite. The unnamed scout tried to avert a horse fly attack by executing a textbook rollcast which happened to snap off the last seven inches of the tip section. :( Cabelas said that the rod is no longer carried by them but if I send it to them they will give me a voucher towards another rod. I would rather get this one fixed. Anyone know who carries replacement tip sections for this rod? Re: Cabelas Stowaway

If Cabelas doesn't have the tip it's only the rarest of chances that someone else might have a spar tip. These were, after all, only sold by Cabela made to their specs on an oem basis. I'd go for the voucher. Re: Cabelas Stowaway

There is no such thing as dealers "carrying spare tips!" If you are lucky you might find someone who has a tip from another rod of the same model that they will part with, but the chances are slim! You could do a repair on the section, there are articles on the "how to." Re: Cabelas Stowaway

Cabela's now have a 6 piece Stowaway in their range and they sell the blanks for these also. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
