Anyone used this blank to fish? i have had one for a year or so now and find it a good rod for light saltwater fishing. A little long at 7 "6 would like something around 7 ft .slightly softer tip but in a matt finish in the 8-17 lb range. would't be using more than 5/8 - 1oz soft-plasics for saltwater in depths around 50-100 ft
I was going to use the new split grip seats from fuji but gone off the idea. The guy using this would likely get into some decent fish in the 30-50lb mark, so wants a longer fore-grip. A stealth look around so black everything.. oh and a matt finished blank Any help appreciated Re: MHX L904

CB847-Blend MHX or CB845-Blend MHX. They both have a matte finish. Bob McKamey Mud Hole Custom Tackle bobm@mudhole.com Re: MHX L904

I think Bob is on the money. I built a similar rod right after the MXH blanks, and of all the ones I tested at the 2010 Rod Expo, the CB843 blend was the one I liked most. I liked even more than the all-graphite models -- it just felt great in my hand. And it turned out to be a neat little back bay rod.
The water that this rod was built to fish is shallower (20-25 feet max) than you're looking at, though, so the CB843 is probably too light for you. The CB845-blend sounds about perfect - these are great light saltwater blanks. Re: MHX L904
