Kinda feel a little bit embrassed to ask, but how do you keep the under wraps the same length as you work up the blank toward the tip. I measure but by the time i have reach the top the under wrap look extra long

Hi Bobby,
Are you making your underbindings all the same length? I measure the length of the guide foot and make the underbindings 130% of that measurement and that works out pretty good for me. If you've got a number of guides the same size near the tip the last one always looks longer but that is an optical allusion, I've measured enough of them as the last one looks longer to me but the ruler doesn't lie.

Bobby, the underwraps on my rods and most other builders are NOT the same size. What they are however is the same distance from the end of the guidefoot. Get a pair of calipers or a compass that you used in geometry class and set them to a whatever length you like and when you place the guides on the rod, simply lay the compass on the blank and mark where it lays.

Hope that helps.

Kevin

Thanks Kiven, went and bought a pair of dividers and problem solved.

Thanks to all that responded. I enjoy this sight and RodMaker magazine.

I start from the tip to the butt and use a compass with two points to measure each wrap

After the guides are in place I mark them with 1/4" tape then take them off
