Hi Harry,
Guides on top or bottom? Static testing is the best way to get the spacing correct for either setup. A few different opinions for guides on top especially with micros on whether to keep the line off the blank. Spiral wrapping will get rid of that. The spacing I use is from notes from the last rod I did that is similar in length/action/power, that's where I start the layout with. Once i have them on the rod I static test them until I'm happy with the results. On a 7' rod, I'll generally end up with 9 or 10 American Tackle micro guides if I'm going straight up the blank.
