Call around to some fly shops. Spey casting is "in" right now. Guys are using it to fish some not very big rivers because it lets them fish a fly "on the swing" all the way to other side of a modest size river. Most shops will be happy to let you test cast several different running line/shooting head/sinking tip combinations to find what best suits your rod and intended use. If there is no one near you, call the folks at Batson; they live in the heart of Steelhead country, and I'm sure they would be glad to help.

there are forum's for spey rods, as well as some of the line makers will give you some inputs, one of the largest makers of FLY lines has a very good listing of line size to the type an size of rod you have, most of the supporters carry the line, [ there box is mostly YELLOW with a fish on it ] , good luck,
PS, there is a window of line sizers that will work on that rod an it is up to you to find the correct one for you,
no 2 people fish the same way it is just like a fly rod [some times up a size or down a size, but it is a good place to start]

Dennis,
As was already mentioned, most fly line manufactures maintain lists with line/rod match ups. You can also email Batson. I did this recently and two days later I received a call from someone who gave me lots of information on the best lines. The call did not even come from Batson. Talk about great service. I can't remember if I can post the names of other forums but here is a great resource:

speypages.com

Finally there is at least one customer fly line maker that has an extensive set of recipes for most rods out there . He can either build you a line (good prices) or recommend a good over the counter one. Use a search engine and look for customer spey line makers or contact me off line.

I am guessing you are in the 450gr area for a skagit line. Less for scandi.

375 to 425 grain Scandi is what Batson recommends for that blank.
