Agate guides

I am getting ready to build myself a new 9' 4wt fast action TL Johnson Blank. I have always loved the looks of the agate strippers. I will just need one stripper for a 4wt so will the weight be that much of a factor since it will be low on the rod? or will I hurt performance of the modern blank?

Thanks,
Bob

i don't feel that using one guide as a stripper would diminish the performance in any way. even if it did i would bet it would be very miniscule. what you will get is having a special rod that you really enjoy and get satisfaction from using. this many times will cause you to use it more and thus enjoy it more. build it like you want, enjoy it, and use the heck out of it

Technically yes, practically no.

That tiny amount of additional weight located back towards the butt of the rod would be unnoticeable to the user.

What size would I need for a 4wt, I know they are thicker than normal guides?
