Well, tax time has rolled around this month again and with all the invoices created and no other rods being built this month/year until January, I had a chance to do them while a couple of rods were spinning with epoxy. My state taxes are due on the 20th, so I like to get them out at least 5 days prior to the due date. Parish/County taxes are quarterly as well as Federal. State tax done, check written. Parish/County tax done, check written. FET, calculated, and calculated again...came out the same - compared calculations to invoices...came out the same, calculated invoices...again came out the same, re-read instructions on the 720....yep that's the check i need to right.....wooow!!!! I must say that Christmas season has been good, with mostly Christmas presents and some rods for customers for other reasons, it was a nice busy one.....But gotta tell ya, I hate charging the FET, but it really does add up and if I wouldn't have charged it with the rod invoice it would have hurt. There is some consolation, however - the Sportfishing FET monies are not put into the general Government revenue fund. They are held apart and then returned, less just 6% for U.S. Fish and Game administrative fees, to the fifty states for fishing enhancement programs. So in theory, at least, they create a better fishery, which creates more fishermen, which hopefully creates more customers for custom rods.

The alternative could be that you don't owe them anything which means that you made none and made nothing. Good problem to have. Its like paying income taxes. You don't want to pay a lot of taxes, then make little and be poor.
Merry Christmas. Kevin Re: 4th quarter FET.....Ouch!
