Newbie Introduction

Hello everyone and Happy Holidays!

My name is John Locke, and I live in northern Delaware in the US. Current fishing interests include freshwater, primarily large mouth, and salt water for flounder, stripers, and tautog (or blackfish). Anyway, I friend of mine recently started building rods and I was immediately attracted, more as a hobby than a business. Anyway, I now subscribe to Rodmaker (Tom Kirkman, ed & pub), bought the book Rod-Building Guide (Tom Kirkman, author), and have enrolled in a Mud Hole rod building class next February. Through this forum (Tom Kirkman, admin), I have also found out about the ICRBE in late February (Tom Kirkman, organizer) and may make another February trip to NC to attend. (New grandson, future fishing partner in NC so my wife loves excuses to head down!) Anyway I was struck by the fact that 'Kirkman' is such a common name for folks in the rod building world! Who would have thought there would be four of them!?

This is clearly a top notch group, helpful and courteous, with much knowledge and experience, and the graciousness to share as well. I look forward to each visit, have learned much already, and who knows, eventually may even be able to hep out a newbie myself someday.

Tight lines (and straight guides!)

John

I love fishing, but to be honest this whole catching thing has me stumped!

Good to have you on board.

It may seem as if there are four Tom Kirkman`s. We only have one and he does a great job in all the roles he plays.
