it looks like the color of the pencil, I think those are made of graphite, I am not sure but I think i heard it was from somewhere, but it is the same color.I like them for the fact that they are harder to get a scratch on them, not that I want a scratch, but like the colore painted ones you have to be careful about scratching them, I know by experience. cause the first rod I built was painted and I sure did a good job of putting scratches on it, with the packing tool. I still am learning though.

A quick coat of either permagloss or LumiSeal will stop that Very hard coating

bare graphite will hold up very well Needs nothing and lighter Only if you want a different color on it
