Making an extension for my surf rod. its going to be 2 feet long . the section I propose to use will be a tip into butt design is there a difference in the way it will load and cast compared to the tip over butt design? Re: Difference

Are you making a ferrule? The problem with inserting the smaller tip into a larger butt is that you have no taper-lock and any wear will constantly loosen the fit.

Maryann; If you are extending the tip end , tip into butt, you will have to have ferrules, won't work without them. Like Tom said , you don't have the taper-lock. If you want to make the rod 2 feet longer, extend it in the butt end so you will have the taper-lock.
If you extend the tip end it must be tip OVER butt or ferruled, one or the other. Hope that makes sense to you. J.B.Hunt Bowling Green, KY Re: Difference
