Looking at building a 1 wt fly rod for a friend. Look for one in the 7 to 7'6" range. Anyone know of a good blank? They seem to be hard to find.

My 6 ft 10 in Sig III Dan Craft rod is a keeper, the newer version may be a bit longer, but I haven't viewed his site in a while.

Here are a few 1wt blanks I've considered but have yet to pull the trigger on:
- Orvis 7'6" 1wt Superfine Touch
- Sage TXL/TXL-F 7'10" 1wt
- Custom/Prime CTS blank
- Elkhorn Western 7' 2pc 1wt (have to check with Elkhorn on blank availability)
- TFO Finesse 6'9" 4pc 1wt

Thanks. If anyone has used a TFO finesse I would like some feedback. I like the price but not very excited about TFO's factory rods as they are heavy to me. But, I've never had a chance to try a finesse, factory or otherwise.

I've built an 8'9" 4 wt for a local club prize. I liked the rod so much I built one for myself. they are different than the other TFO lines. to me they are lighter and more responsive but that's just my opinion.

Ed - I've read a couple reviews of the TFO 1wt. Send me an email and I'll pass on the links to the website.

I've built a St. Croix SCii/SCiv 2wt and I think it might handle a 1 wt line but got to find one to borrow to try it out. As a 2 wt it is an excellent rod and a little on the moderate side. I know St. Croix says fast but no way...Anyone looking to build a short 2wt. I would put this up agianst the Sage TXL.

I'm not famiar with Elkhorn...who sells them?

I love the Dan Craft rods as I have a 3wt and 5wt Sig V's and love them.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
