Can some explain the difference and appropriate uses of these two finishes. I am not a chemist, so plain language is needed. T K uses spray urethane oh fiber carbon handles, why not polyurethane?

When it applies to finishes, Urethane is just another term for Polyurethane.

Poly means many, so polyurethanes are a blends of several urethanes.
I no longer use spray urethane on carbon-fiber handles. PermaGloss or LumaSeal is much, much, much better as they're water white clear, hard as a rock, nearly impossible to scratch and with the application technique specified in the last issue of RodMaker, take about all of 10 seconds to apply in a smooth, perfectly level and streak-free top coat. ............ I have been turning reel seats and handles and I use mostly Stabilized blanks, so no sealing needed. However, I have been buying some natural wood blanks so this thread caught my attention. May I ask those who know would PermaGloss or LumaSeal be a good finish and sealant on natural wood components??? Thanks for any input. Re: urethane vs. polyurethane?
