Crimp in ferrule-fix or replace?

Found an older 2 piece, 8' St Croix fly rod at a garage sale (for $1). The female ferrule (metal) has a slight crimp in it. Has anyone found a way to open these back up using some sort of tubing expander or something? Surely someone has found a way to do this without replacing the ferrule? Not much of a crimp, but enough to keep things from going together. Re: Crimp in ferrule-fix or replace?

Not sure you can find a tubing expander in that size, and even if so, a new ferrule might be less costly. They're only a very few dollars.
