A thread with no stretch will be of little use in attaching line guides. We depend on some stretch to firmly affix the guide to the rod blank. Try wrapping a guide with Spectra fishing line and you'll quickly understand why having some stretch in the thread is needed.

Fishhawk is very similar to them, I believe because of the consistency of Fishhawk we have the edge. Please go to one of our many dealers and they will be glad to help you. Thanks Scott Parsons 919-900-8998 [www.roddancer.com] [www.fishhawkthreads.com] Re: Gudebrod thread

Or, you can go with this non lubricated nylon thread in the size and color that you wish. Very inexpensive and a large variety of colors:

Just want to mention that we need to be careful about thread.
It is NOT all created equal, and thread that is designed for rod building is generally a tighter weave with few "fuzzies" There may be others that work as well, but not all. Ron,
I agree 100% with you. Having said that - I also agree that about 99% of the thread that is manufacured in the world today is used to sew things together. As a result, I would expect that the thread that we see as "rod building " thread comes from spools of thread that are mainly used to sew things together. I have 0 first hand knowledge of the actual source for rod building thread, but the total quantities of thread used to build fishing rods around the world are so small, that I am doubtful that a thread manufacturer has an assmebly line - set up -- just to manufacture fishing rod thread. If there is, I apologize - since I have no knowledge of that fact either way. Take care REW Re: Gudebrod thread

Bill, I have some of the fishhawk gun metal. It is pretty dark, about the same color as you are starting to see on the handles and frames of some new reels. Hope that helps you decide. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: Gudebrod thread
