Hi Guys,
One for the Aussie builders. Never been happy with colour match from the filler I've been using. Found a filler that is a very close match to cork. Timber Mate non shrinking, water based wood filler in the colour of Rimu avaiable from Bunnings. Did a test on a ring and used U40 sealer. Came out really well and the colour is almost indentical. The stuff is also designed to be a grain filler and should fill even the smallest imperfections if used correctly. Comes in 250grm containers which would do a lot of handles. Costs around $9. Keep on building. ESFNEM Col Port Kembla, NSW Australia Re: Cork Filler

Col,
Here in the sates, we have had a similar product come out a few years ago that is called Elmers "light oak" water based wood filler and is commonly available at most home lumbr supply stores. Many of our sponsers on the left of this page carrry it as well and it has become the semi standard for many builders to take care of pits and blems in cork grips. Thanks for the update. Roger,
I never really liked the Elmers. It seems to gets hard in the tube and I don`t think it holds that well. A few weeks ago I picked up a product from Janns` Net Craft (a sponsor from the left) a product called "Pit Paste 2" by RodDancer. I haven`t tried it yet but I was told by the counter man it was the best he had used. But then he is a salesman too so who knows? Bill Ohio Rod Builders Canton, Ohio Re: Cork Filler

I have been VERY HAPPY with Pit Paste - it's the best cork patch I have used. I almost always use U-40 Cork Seal over it too.
Look no further. Good Luck, Marc Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
