Is there a rule of thumb for the thickness of the walls on a cork reel seat? Here's my dilemma... I was going to make a cork/sliding band seat for a little 3/4wt glass rod. I already have some nice nickel sliding bands, but the butt of this blank is .392" and by the time I'm finished turning the cork down for the seat there's like an 1/8" of cork left. Is that enough for a cork & sliding band seat? Will it hold up? My gut is telling me to kill this idea for this rod and put a screw lock seat on it. What would you do?

The cork will be supported by the blank underneath it. It'll be fine unless you have large gaps or openings between the cork and the rod blank.

If you mean an eigth inch all around it should be no problem, however if your down to a sixteenth, I'd hesitate. Re: cork reel seat -- would you or would'nt you

Use either the rubberized cork or exotic burl cork rings- they are tougher and have no voids so should work very well. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
