nail polish????

I have seen the use of nail polish as a finish for guide wraps. if i dont care how it looks, is it usable. not for big fish or anything. like little flounder. im also using really small guides and dont want to put too much epoxy on the wraps or get it in the guides. i feel as though this is kind of a substitute for PG. let me know.

Thanks

Gabe nail polish is great for fast repairs and holds up fairly well BUT it is in no way a replacement for finish or PG

It's similar to the old nitrocellulose lacquer type thread coatings from decades past. It will work, but not as long nor as well as more modern finish products.

I use Sally Hansen Hard as Nails to finish jigs, but not to replace regular rod finish. C2

Gabe,

Just put a coat or two of CP on. It's quick, easy to clean up if you decide to rewrap, and I've been fishing a rod for well over a year with a couple of guides wrapped and CPed for a temporary fix. I think I might leave it that way just to see how it wears.

In 1980, I repaired some thread wraps on a Garcia Conolon spinning rod, using my grandma's red nail polish. In 2007, I refinished that same rod, as my first rodbuilding project. The nail polish had held up fine.

CP doe s real well by itself. I have a UL spinning rod, all the guides only have CP on the threads and it has been going for over 10 years.
