Epoxy Cracked weirdly

I've been browsing this forum for some time now, since I've had the mis-fortune of becoming addicted to this hobby. Everyone here is chock full of information. And while searching rodbuilding.org and other places for epoxy repair, I have not found anything to compare to what I have going on.

Here's my issue, and advice is more than welcome: The only big game rod I have is a Penn rod (older model 5yrs or so), I spotted a crack in the expoxy - as I began to peel it off with my finger nail, the only portions that came off were right on top of the rod sticker (length, line, lure weight ect), a perfect triangle. This is between the stripping guide and the next guide. The epoxy is covered on the rod from the foregrip to the front wrap on the 2nd guide after the stripping guide.

I have not began my experiments yet, so here's what I've been thinking. Since the epoxy (is it epoxy on this rod?) is pretty thick, "carefully" scar it almost to the blank, between the guide wraps and attempt to remove. Or use the hair dryer tactic and soak the heck out of with DNA to strip it between the guide wraps. Could I just epoxy the triangle (I have a feeling it would look not-so-purty)? I would like to not have to remove the epoxy or threads, or guides.

lightly scuff the area that's the entire area with scotch bright then wipe down with clean dust free cloth apply epoxy over entire area it will be fine Penn along with others often use something between the epoxy and what is under it

Alright, Thanks - I'll give it a try and see how it comes out.

You can also score the edges of the wraps with a razor blade, then peel off the finish in-between the guides. You may find it to come off rather easily. Then clean, scuff and recoat. But I'd use a urethane instead of an epoxy for the recoat.
