i was sanding and fitting a ferrule tonight when my young son scared me and i dropped the rod section onto the floor landing on the veerrryyy tight fitting ferrule i was working on. No amount of tugging and cursing would remove it.
solution.... big wads of masking tape on the blank and the ferrule and yank hard. The tape gives you enough grip to get a good purchase on both sections. Hope this helps someone out. cheers Re: Bamboo ferrule tip.

Dean: The old guys showed me 2 different solutions for stuck metal ferrules. One was to put the rod behind your legs, grab the rod, and use your knees to pull the sections apart. When this didn't work, it took 2 people. One would grab the rod above and below the ferrule, and the other would grab the first ones hands and both would pull. Today I keep a number of rubber turniquets around. These are rubber strips about 1' wide, and 12 to 14" long. They have many uses around the shop including unsticking ferrules. I was looking for one the other day, and couldn't find any. I finally asked my wife. All of my rubber strips had migrated into the kitchen where she used them for opening jars. Mike Bradfrod R.M.B. And for anytime on any blank when you need a very firm grip without crushing or damaging the blank, consider the "Bronco" tool.
