Hey all.... a large group of guys that I fish with all use an old school "King Fisher" rod. I believe they were made by Abu Garcia back in the 50's. Dont hold me to that though. They are all about 9' long and seem to be a medium - medium heavy action.
Whats the deal with them. These guys absolutely LOVE them. They go to great lengths to find them not to mention restore them Any thoughts. Ive never used one before Re: Whats the deal with king fisher rods

Casey, there was a South African made rod by that name from the late 60's and into the early 70's. Their label was a badge of a small kingfisher sitting on a tree branch with a minnow in its beak. Re: Whats the deal with king fisher rods

Not really an answer to your question. Lots of people acquire / restore rods based on memories (or 'street lore') I have two older gentlemen (charter captains) that are in love with Harnell rods - they actively seek them out and brag to each other when they've found one. Now, Harnell was a really good company - but in today's market there are better lighter blanks.
I'm always drawn to older bamboo rods (collectible and not). For me it's a mind set. I know that new graphite rods are "better" for most conditions.. I'm drawn by the mystique. I guess the same may be the reason your buddies like King Fisher rods. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/10/2011 07:34AM by Ken Preston. Re: Whats the deal with king fisher rods

Im in the process of getting all my equipment straight and working to figure out a good combination to build and sell... It seems every other time I go out someone tries to buy the pole I use, so I figure why not go out with one im willing to sell. Re: Whats the deal with king fisher rods

I built it when I was 15 and have used it ever since... Im 33 now... God that makes me feel old.. I did give him a price of 350.. I figured that was what I would let it go for and not feel too bad... Then he said 250 and I said no... So ill just build something that I would sell for 250 and go back LOL Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
