I was out downrigger fishing today for trout.
After trying about 6 different rods, I have come to the realization, that for this particular application, and for the fish we are catching, I need an 8 foot one piece medium light power in a slow action. I think that I would prefer a glass blank- as opposed to a graphite blank for this application. I want to be able to about bend it in half with a reasonable amount of force for use on the down rigger, and then the ability of the blank to snap up and hook the fish, when the fish clears the line from the release. All of the blanks that might be suitable for this are all too heavy. (power wise). Thanks for any thoughts. Roger Re: slow action medium light power - 8 foot blank

What about Batson's e-glass blanks or their crankbait e-glass? David Dosser Coshocton, OH Re: slow action medium light power - 8 foot blank

How about one of the Batson popping rods, The IP841 842 or 843 extended to 8 foot might keep you in the power range you're looking for. Re: slow action medium light power - 8 foot blank

Thanks for the thoughts,
I think that the light RDR blank will probabaly work. I don't believe that the popping rods will work. They have too much beef in the center of the blank Thanks again. Roger Re: slow action medium light power - 8 foot blank

Have you considered using a glass flyrod blank? Re: slow action medium light power - 8 foot blank

The RDR blanks should be the ticket. Tight Lines and Bull's-eyes, Get Bit Outdoors 407-542-7840 www.GetBitOutdoors.com www.facebook.com/GetBitOutdoors Re: slow action medium light power - 8 foot blank

I was running errands today and found a couple of built up light action - 6-10 lb line - fiberglass rods for $20 each.
These glass downrigger rods will be just fine for the few times that I need to use this style downrigger rod. The tips and mid section are such, that the tip can bend down to the butt of the rod. Just exactly what I need to fully load the rigger and get a good hook set when the fish pops the rigger. Thanks again. Roger Re: slow action medium light power - 8 foot blank
