Tuna Rod Stripper guide?

Im building a calstar 700h and using a everol 4/0. and 14in fore grip.I load the rod with 15-25 lbs drag the line starts to hit my hand and gets worse as the drag increases, hits my hand when i hold the rod at the top of the fore grip when using the rod in a belt and when i lean it on a railing to simulate laying the rod on the rail for a breather. I have it set up for a spiral with 20 and all 10s titanium turbos. Has anyone built this blank? Should I go up to a 25,I dont wanna buy that big of a guide for nothing since i wont use it. I move the stripper all the way down to the foregrip and it still hits. Thanks SteveZ.

the rear grip is short, when in a belt i can lean back on it and have both hands comfortably on the fore grip. and i can rail it when i get tired. when i fished joeys offshore rods they had longer fore grips and i was able to lean back and on the down crank get like 3 feet of line back, the leverage felt nice cause i could grab the rod high up. when i went on the partyboat and used their rod i was uncomfortable, these were nice when the fish pulls 25 # of drag i just lean back,if the line snaps that would be funny cause ill end up on my rear.Yea get me the 25 are you ordering soon? thanks.

Move the first guide closer to the grip. If it is already close, go to a 25 which will raise it.

Like the others said, move it closer or go with a taller guide. The Fuji HBSG or SiN2 series 25mm is higher than the 25mm Turbo style from Pac Bay. I use the 25mm's for stripper guides usually.

This is why when building tuna rods it is important to do a static guide distribution test with the rod fully loaded with the maximum drag that will be used. That is the only way to find out where the line will lie when the rod is fully bent. The way I do this is to hang a 5 gallon bucket off the rod tip and fill it with the necessary weight. I then run a light line (10# or what ever is handy) through the guides and put a 1 oz weight on the end. The other end of the line is tapes to the center of the spool of a reel the same size as the one that will be used. This way the rod is fully loaded but there is little pressure on the line making the guides easy to adjust.

I need a bigger guide,I had it all the way to the fore grip. I just wanted to make sure because I never used anything bigger than a 20. Thanks for all the input everyone.
