I was walking around one of the local big box tackle shops in my area and I noticed a casting rod that has a telescopic section near the grip of the rod???? I have no idea what the advantage of this is, so I started looking around on the net. I found another company (high end imported Japanese casting rods) that has the same telescopic grip section. I found no information on what this section of the rod does. Does anyone know what this is all about? Is there an advantage to it?

Many bass rods used as flipping sticks and such are built this way. it's a length issue to fit into rod lockers and such.

In Portugal we use that kind of rod but to boat fishing. That way you can use the same rod with two different sizes. The competition guys like them, they have a 4,00m rod and then have another element that can make a 4,50m rod.
Personally don't like it. Adding that part generally disequilibrate the rod. Completely. Abraço Nuno Re: Telescopic casting rods

For bass rods, it is as Duane says, to allow the rod to fit into the rod locker. Most rods you see like this have a length of 8" and on smaller bass boats, this will not fit in the rod locker. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
