Hi folks,
I'm returning to rod building after a 5 year hiatus. I was wondering if I could still use my old threads and epoxies and such after such a long break, or should I just start over with those things? Thanks in advance for the input. Dave Re: using old thread and epoxy

You can indeed. Remove one outer wrap from the thread spools to unveil fresh thread free of dust and/or UV damage. Your epoxy will work fine, but may be yellowed a bit. However, even new epoxy will yellow in time, even after you apply it to the rod. Buy new if it makes you feel better, but it really makes no difference other than that it will be clearer off the bat, for a while anyway.

David,
I would use the old thread, but I would toss any glue that has been sitting for 5 years. It may be all right, but again, it may give you some issues. Why take a chance. Roger Re: using old thread and epoxy

Roger
Depending how much epoxy you have, it would be worth mixing a small batch to see if it cures. I have used 2 part epoxy that was 10 years old without any problems. John Re: using old thread and epoxy

Thanks for the input, guys. I plan on keeping the thread and tossing the epoxies. The next rod I'm building is for someone else, not mine... so I'm taking no chances.
