Heavy spiral wire guides... need a source.

I've been doing much more blue water angling of late vs. back country. I've built several rods using the live bait series from Batson and I love the blanks but I don't think the guides I have been using will stand up over time to the wreck and bottem fishing that I have been doing. I'm looking for boat rod guides that are stomp proof. The kind that the rod will break before the guides will fail. Where do I go to get these old fashion guides? I know about REC. Not heavy enough. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks

American tackle boat guides are awfully tough!!

REW

Best to use guides without ceramic liners if you want to be able to stomp on them and keep using them.

Hi,

Contact REC and ask them to build you a special set of guides to meet your standards.

A customer has a set of RECs on the rod I built him. He targets 20 lb bluefish. He has no complaints with those guides.

Thanks Captain Neil. I love the REC guides. Never had an issue. Couldn't agree more! Just looking for something a bit heavier.

Greg, Did you ever build with Fuji's BHNOG or BHNLG guides? Very sturdy frames and heavy duty rings.

I have been using twister guides. they are either made by pac bay or perfection. closest thing I have found to the original foulproof, fixable with a pair of pliers charter boat guide

Greg, The guides that you may be looking for are listed in Mudhole's catalog as Carbide Boat Rod Guides on page 99. Or you can choose the cheaper ones called wire frame guides. I found them this morning while looking for one of those guides to do a repair job on an old rod.

Mr. Davis,
I believe the guides you are looking for are our twister guides (model TW). They are located on p 37 of our existing catalog. These guides have been around for years and are intended for the applications you described. You can download a catalog from www.fishpacbay.com.

Thanks Geoff. That is what I was looking for. I'll go back to your website and look for a distributor. Thanks, and thanks to all that responded!
