I've been thinking seriously about using a single foot guide instead of a tubed tiptop on my next rod - an RX7 6'6" 2pc 2wt.
Any suggestions on the best way to go about this? Anything I need to pay special attention to? Thanks. Re: SF guide as tiptop

It's done all the time. If the guide itself is sturdy enough to serve as a tiptop, you'll be fine.
Some builders use a fly tying bobbin to wind on a single foot at the blank tip. ............... Re: SF guide as tiptop

Jon,
The only downside to the use of a single foot guide for a tip, is that the typical UNBRACED single foot guide may have bending issues - especially if accidentally abused somewhat. There should not be a problem with bending under normal use and with the tip not hitting or being caught in any thing. Take care Roger Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
