add epoxy?

I just acquired a well-used Winston rod that has a couple of guides beginning to pull up out of the epoxy, and wondered if I should dab a bit of epoxy on top of the spots or just wait till they pull out a little more to where it's a definite problem. If I add epoxy, should I rough up the old stuff first? Re: add epoxy?

I would go ahead and strip off the old epoxy, re-wrap the guide and put on new epoxy; especially if the guide is loose at all. Once they crack it doesn't take much for it to work loose. If you can move the guides easily, then I recommend to strip it and redo it. David Dosser Coshocton, OH Re: add epoxy?

Is the blank a green color? If that's the one I'm thinking of, you might be able to send them an e-mail to get the exact color. If not, then what I do is peel off the old wrap and look at the underside where there is no epoxy and just try and match it as best you can. David Dosser Coshocton, OH Re: add epoxy?

Karen,
Go ahead and do it right and take all of the guides and wraps off of the rod and use the thread of your choice to rewrap the guides and give it a fresh lease on life. Take care Roger Re: add epoxy?

I agree with Dave and Roger
If the epoxy was to fail on your first outing, it could ruin the trip. Bill Ohio Rod Builders Canton, Ohio Re: add epoxy?
