In a previous post i was seeking recommendation for a blank for fishing for spanish from pier. I gave info about lure weight and line, needing fast to moderate fast action with some backbone. I forgot to mention that these spanish only run from 1 to 2 lbs.
Thanks, Roger Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/18/2011 11:50PM by Roger Rierson. Re: Blank Recommendation(from previous post)

I'd look at a popping blank along the lines of a P842 or P902. Several companies offer them and they're fairly similar in power and action.

Roger I think you have a couple of things going on that might be keeping others from offering advice. First your casting weight is heavy for the pound test you intend to use and the size of the fish. Second, the idea of using the rod to flip or hoist the fish onto the pier causes shudders down one's spine:)
The last two blanks I bought were a sj781 and a p704. You would think the popping rod should be a lot stronger...and it may be...but the spin jig feels stiffer. I think I'd go in that direction. Another direction to consider is all the bass guys embracing glass rods. Seeker offers a ccouple of composite rods in 7 foot. One is rated 6-15#, 1/4 to 1 ounce and the other 8-17#, 3/8 to 1 ounce. The part#'s are CBS706 and CBS707. Might be worth a look see. Typically their stuff is pretty rugged. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: Blank Recommendation(from previous post)

Hello Roger
I used a G-Loomis C723 on the Sportsmans Pier before they tore it down and caught many Blues, Spanish, and even a SMALL king (needed the net to raise the king) with it. It handles the small spanish (1-3#) easily, but a lot is in technique, you have to swing over not lift over. Mud Hole still has them listed on pg. 53 at the top. Hope you get in some catchin.
