I just found an old rod I built

I built a fly rod for my Dad, and since he passed, I have been looking for it. I finally found it today. It is a 9' 6# LCI graphite. I signed and dated the rod. It was built for Father's Day in 1986. This old rod has seen many miles on the creeks, rivers, and lakes of Idaho and Oregon. It is in surprizingly good shape. I have cleaned the cork, and it will need a little filling and light sanding. One guide needs to be re-wraped, but other then this, the rod is ready to fish. I feel a memorial fishing trip comeing on.

You know that is a wonderful thing. It is in a way a means for you to fish with your dad when ever you wish. I love it and you just gave me an idea..

You are very luck to have found something so precious. Im sure your dad would like to see it restored to its former glory days. Happy fishing with it.

Mike,
This brings back a very pleasant memory.
Many many years ago, my family and I went south to visit my parents at Christmas time. While there, I had brought a gift for my father.
It was a piece of artwork make of a piece of particle board, a piece of velvet cloth and a pattern along with copper wire and a box of hardware.
The object of this gift was to use the nails, wire and hardware to generate a piece of artwork that illustrated a Ford model A automobile.

While visiting we would spend a few hours each day to complete the artwork. It was finished before we returned home and my father hung it on the wall of his living room, where it was when he passed away.

I now have it in my rod building shop hanging on a wall.
Evrery time that I glance up at it, it brings back a flood of plesant memories of working togehter on the project as well as some of the other things that happend to us as we were together in a family.

Memories - you can't buy them.

Roger

I'm glad you found that rod, Mike. A couple years ago I went camping in the Sierras to one of the first places my Dad took me fishing. It brought back a lot of memories and appreciation.
