finish problem

I've been having some trouble getting my LS Supreme to level out, but only on the label area of the rods that I build. It seems like it is reacting to something that's only on the label. The only thing that is different from the rest of the rod is the water slide decal paper that is coated with clear gloss Krylon. I have excellent results with the same batch of finish on the guide wraps. Do most of you builders use the clear gloss Krylon?? Could that be the problem?? Any other products I might want to try?? This has been an ongoing problem ever since I started with the decal paper. In the past I used white sticker paper and had no problems. I don't want to go back to that method because I really like the look of the decal paper over a thread wrap. Here is the method that I use.

1. Wrap thread a bit longer then the length of the decal.
2. Coat with CP let dry
3. Coat with CP again and let dry overnight.
4. Apply decal
5. Let dry overnight
6. Apply finish and spin overnight.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I use the gloss and have great results but I use threadmaster. However there was a post on here a while back I believe saying that the gloss can repel the finish and that you should use a satin

I'll have to look into the thread master and give it a try.

Whay are you applying Clear Gloss Krylon?? The finish will give it the gloss. I use a matte Krylon Fix aTiff if anything

Would it be better to coat the wrap with finish before you apply the decal?

Yes It will give you a flat surface for the decal to stick better. I always put at least one coat of CP over them let dry then finish

Don't sand the finish before you put the decal on it will leave scratches under it.

I've used both LS Supreme and Threadmaster over waterslide and peel n stick decals without difficulty; both are good products. I've never used Krylon over a decal but suspect that may be the problem. You may want to apply another coat of CP before your finish goes on to see if that makes a difference although CP may not want to adhere to the Krylon either.

The clear coat krylon came from the tutorial that I got from this site. [www.rodbuildingtutorials.com]
I spray the clear over the deal and let dry before I apply it to the rod.
