Sanding ChromaSeal?

I went a little heavy on a wrap and the ChromaSeal looks like a slurry created from powdered sugar and water. There are lots of little bumps and "pits" and while I know the epoxy will level out over this, I am concerned about light bouncing around in there and making a sparkling effect.

I would like to knock it smooth with some 800 sandpaper. All indications are (including Scott Parsons' opinion) that this should be fine. I know epoxy turns white when sanded but that it goes clear again on next coat. Given that ChromaSeal is an acrylic, I am hoping this same thing would happen.

Thanks.

If it were me, I'd take a scrap section of rod blank, wrap it, then apply the CP in such a way as to duplicate what you have now on your rod. Then try sanding that, finishing it and see what happens. That way you'll know exactly whether or not to try it on your rod. Might take you a bit to try it, but it would almost surely beat having to completely strip and rewrap your rod.

Tom -

Luckily it is only ONE wrap, but thank you. Good idea.

That's a lot of work for one wrap - you might come out better just cutting it off and redoing it. Or... you can do the test for the benefit of everyone else who might be wondering.

I will do the test and report the results. I think even Scott Parsons would like to know for sure. Tonight I am going to sand with 800, clean off and put get it just wet with some more ChromaSeal to eliminate any scuffs.

I have hit it with 400 wet dry paper - dry - and it did not have any bad results After sanding I took the dust off with a damp folded paper towel

On white NCP thread I have used many CPs they all worked fine - and for more bang for your buck - I am thinking of going back to Flex Coat.
