Can anyone tell me if size D pro wrap metallic thread is wider than size D fish hawk metallic thread. I started a butt wrap using these two threads and pro wrap seems much larger in diameter to me. thanks in advance for any info. Re: Thread size

Take a caliper and measure each and let us know.

Bill,
I do it all of the time. As I posted above, there is the chart. Take the thread, put it in the jaws of the caliper, dial it down and what you see is the measured diameter. Pretty simple. Sure the thread gets squished, but all of the threads get squished, and you are comparing squished measurements so to speak, so it checks out fine. Give it a try, and you will see how it works. I use the caliper all of the time to measure both mono as well as braided fishing line. Again, the braids get squished, but it is still a valid comparison. You are using the same measuring technique for various fibers, and the thicker fibers will be reflected by a larger number on the caliper. I also do a lot of sewing on various fabrics with many different sizes of threads. I use the caliper all of the time to check for thread size on the sewing machines, to be sure that I am using the right thread for the right fabric and right machine. I use the machines to make rod bags, tackle bags, boat covers as well as general mending and clothing. . Something to quiet the busy fingers. They also work well to recover furniture and boat seats.
