spine finder tool

I saw a picture of a spine finder made from two "wheel bearings" mounted in seperate pieces of wood placed a few inches apart. Has anyone made this ? Does anyone know the dimensions of the blocks of wood have to be seperated? How well does it work?
Thanks
Mike

It works fine and you can likely make one just from looking at that photo. The May/June 2000 issue of RodMaker has complete plans for making your own. It's not very difficult to make one.

Mike,

I E-mailed you a drawing of a two bearing spline finder.

Make sure that the bearing mounting surface is sufficently large to prevent tipping over under load.

John,
Thanks for the diagram...Do you place the rod blank in the rubber stopper then apply the load to the blank?? How does it work?
