extending a switch/spey blank

I am wanting to build a spey rod for trout, something around 12 ft or under and not too expensive. I already have a Rainshadow 10'8" 6wt (single hand rating) switch rod that I really enjoy for trout. I want something fairly similar, as far as grains it will handle and action, only about a foot longer. My thoughts are I could purchase the same 6wt switch and extend it about a foot or should I get the 5wt since extending a blank, from what I've researched, will affect the power a little bit. My other idea was to try extending the Angler's Roost 11 foot 2/3 wt but that seems a little light. Anyone have experience with this and/or any ideas? Much appreciated. Bob Meiser makes a very nice trout spey blank in the 3/4 I think and around 11.5-1`12'. There are many options out there for a trout spey blank if you look you wil find them.
You could extend one but there are plenty of options designed for the use. If you search "trout spey" at speypages. com I am sure you will find days of reading on the subject. Good luck. Eric Re: extending a switch/spey blank

Thanks Eric,
Yeah, I know there are many, many options. And I'm on Spey pages daily. Just wanting to try something on a limited budget. Re: extending a switch/spey blank

Hi Lyman,
This looks like a reasonably-priced option to consider: [theanglersroost.com] George Forster Fort Collins, CO Re: extending a switch/spey blank

Thought about that one too. From what I've gathered on Spey pages that rod will throw around 400 grains. I'm looking for a 3 or 4wt spey rating, 300-350 grains.
Thanks though. Re: extending a switch/spey blank

Lyman,
You are going to invest $ in cork, seat, guides, time - and you want to buy a cheap blank and extend it into something it was not designed for. Give it a second thought. Herb Re: extending a switch/spey blank

Herb,
Believe me, second thoughts is why I posted this question. Low end 4wt spey blanks are running $300+. I'd like to try the Dec Hogan Echo but they don't sell blanks. The finished rod sells for $350. That's why I'm wondering if anyone has extended a longer blank and what the results were, good or bad. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
