What's Lighter - Cork or EVA?

Just wondering if anyone has any info on this one? I know there are different densities of EVA as well, but don't know it they make that much difference.

Thanks - Marc

Keep it simple - that's all I can handle!

Like you said lots of different densities of EVA, and cork can be variable, it can be lighter or heavier.

Some took some measurements of average natural cork versus several different densities in a past issue of RodMaker. I don't remember what issue number off the top of my head. I seem to recall that the least dense EVA was lighter than cork. But you'd want to be aware that such EVA isn't at all durable nor ergonomically correct for the human hand.

Tom,
What does it mean when you say that EVA is not ergonomically correct for the human hand?
I assume that ergonomic refers to shape. I thought that EVA could be shaped to anything that Cork could be shaped to? Am I incorrect?

Thanks for your thoughts.

It refers to a whole gamut of things that go beyond shape. Density is part of the equation - a soft, spongy grip will require more effort to hold and move, as well as to resist unwanted movement. You can read more about rod grip ergonomics in the Volume 10 #3 issue of RodMaker.

A regular cork grip, and an identical EVA grip with teh same ID OD and length - the cork is lighter by hundreths of an ounce. So basically they weigh the same. It's important to have the same ID & OD and length when weighing the grips.

According to Billys results, I would choose which ever is more comfortable.
