New Spline question

Perhaps just luck of the draw, but over the last year nearly all of the RX8 blanks I’ve built on have been virtually straight.
So with no belly to be concerned about, it doesn’t seem to matter which way I orient the guides (or plain I line them up on)

And with recent tests showing that blanks with the spline oriented on the bottom side of a rod are actually subject to fail sooner then if the spine was oriented on some other plain.

Would it create enough of a stronger situation to deliberately orient the spine on the top side of the rod?
Or
Is there enough of an advantage/disadvantage either way to even be concerned with the idea?

steve, i would think that either top or bottom would result in the same"weaker" position. i don't think it would be enough of a difference either way. are you really catching fish big enough to put a strain on your rods?lol

First read this :

Spine : [dictionary.reference.com]

Spline : [dictionary.reference.com]

If my memory services me - I wonder - The out side of the curve was where Spinning guides should be placed giving the rod more strength when pulling up a fish ??

Your maximum deadlift capacity would be reached if the stiffest axis is put into play (but you'd have to deadlift straight up). This is neither the spine nor the opposite of the spine.

Deadlifting on the spine, will result in the minimum deadlift capacity.

We are working on some things now to determine how much difference exists between the two, but thus far it appears it varies from blank blank and by how much difference there is in wall thickness. And, since nobody fishes a rod on a single axis, it's really a mute point anyway.
