Can you straighten a blank?

I have two single piece graphite 6' blanks (Lamiglas GFW721M) that are badly bowed. The blanks are many years old and were purchased from a retired rod builder so returning them is not an option. They are being built specifically for trolling wet flies from a drift boat. I would very much like to straighten them if possible. If anyone has ideas, I would appreciate hearing them. I tied it off to the roof with some steel trace wire. Then hung a gallon of water off the butt. Then hit the tip 8 inches with heat several times(electric heat gun on low at 4 to 6 inches from rod) and allowed it to cool. That did not get it straighter at all. I then i rebuilt with tip up. Moving the reel seat was the big pain; that seat was put on way better than average. The owner has ordered a new rod from me to replace it so its kind of academic now. This one will be a blend of several types of graphite which is less likely to 'take a set' than fiber glass. Re: Can you straighten a blank?

Bill and Lou,
Thanks for your replies. These blanks are not fiberglass. They're actually graphite. I'm not sure if they were produced with a bend in them or if they've been leaning against a wall for years. It sounds like maybe it doesn't matter anyway. I appreciate your input and if anyone else has ideas, please share. Mark Boggs Springfield, OR Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
