finish question: 2nd coat on decorative wrap

Last night I applied the first coat of finish on a decorative wrap. The epoxy seemed to be well distributed when I finished and went to bed. This morning I found a couple of "valleys" in the finish, not the "fish eye" type but low places in the finish more like shallow holes than a groove. I plan to add another coat today and was wondering if I will need to prep the areas that are low or will the next coat level itself out when applied? I am using Prokote medium build. Any input will be appreciated. Thank you. Re: finish question: 2nd coat on decorative wrap

I have not used prokote but generally I will apply more to those valley areas on the 2nd coat. Eyeball it to see how level it looks and make sure your rod is level in it's holder
Are you thinning out your finish at all or have any issues with room temp? Re: finish question: 2nd coat on decorative wrap

Just don't over do it. as Tom has said before the biggest problem is builders will not let the epoxy do its own thing. It will level its self without help from the builder. Paul@soonercustomrod.com Re: finish question: 2nd coat on decorative wrap

Thanks Jim..I am not thinning the finish but I did leave the finish in warm water for 10-15 minutes before mixing. Temp should not be a major issue at 68-70 degrees. I love prokote by the way and have had no problems with it and I'm reasonably sure this is "applicator error". Re: finish question: 2nd coat on decorative wrap

When you put your second coat on your wrap, I try to cover the whole wrap and then add a little to any low spots.... you then can look at it and gently brush any high spots to the low spots, or wick away any excess...
Good Luck Jeff Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
