Not real familiar with centerpin other than they are very similiar in nature to a fly rod. Hotshotting is the method of using a drift boat to hold current and "hot shot" plugs downstream in a basically backtrolling manner. You use the current to give the lures action and basically steer them downstream by controlling the drift of the boat. Very effective for steelhead in Michigan. A centerpin set up is used in fishing a river or moving water. The looks similar to a fly but it stops there. The reels very in size with most in the 4.5-5" range, the reel is "free running" with either bearings or bushings. The bait, fly or whatever is tossed into the current under a float and allowed to move with the current downstream stripping line from the reel to achive a "drag free drift"
The fisherman can control the drift speed (called trotting) by feathering the reel. This is they way you control a fish when hooked as there is no drag. It is a very coneced way to fish IMO. Below is an example of a centerpin reel being held. [www.rodbuilding.org] Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
