Blank Protection Question

Is there something I can use to protect a blanks finish? I am referring to the blank itself, not the epoxy that we use to coat the guides. I have, on occasion, used a little to much elbow grease when wiping up or away dried epoxy or wax pencil markings and rubbed the blanks finish a little raw with DNA. Dried epoxy cannot be wiped away with anything, as far as I know. The wax pencil will come off with a dry paper towel. Get the epoxy before it cures, with a gentle wipe with alcohol, and after that, just use a dry paper towel. Some blanks are more sensitive to alcohol and other spirits than others-I just don't use anything but a gentle wipe with alcohol or a dry towel, just in case. Since epoxy is a part of every blank, anything that will cut cured epoxy will probably damage a blank that is made of cured epoxy. Re: Blank Protection Question

A little less elbow grease and a little more proactive wiping down..........I knew it. Thanks Michael! Re: Blank Protection Question

There are some blanks out there that have really HARD finishes, and some that have soft finishes. Because I've peeled the soft finish off a few blanks (doing what you described), I went from DNA to Isopropyl alcohol (70%). It doesn't do the job as quickly, but it doesn't break down those soft finishes as quickly either. Re: Blank Protection Question

I put tape on the blank and mark that.
The pencil will also come off with rubbing a finger over. Bill - willierods.com Re: Blank Protection Question
