About to build a new spinning rod for myself and just got my new Mudhole catalog in the mail and noticed they have a new reel seat called the Project X Two Tone Reel Seat. These are pretty sweet looking and would like awesome on my white Castaway blank from Swampland I got (which is a great blank). Have a question though, never used an aluminum reel seat and dont know if this seat would be heavier than say an AERO comfort grip. Anyone have any experiences using an aluminum style seat for a bass rod? Would I be better sticking with a graphite seat, just dont want to order the seat and discover its too heavey for the rod (Castaway 842). What do you all think, also not sure how comfortable the seat would be aswell. Any input would be great. Re: Mudhole Project X Two Tone Reel Seat Question

i haven't held the new seat by mudhole yet. i would venture that it is a little heavier, but probably not much and it is in the hand area where it won't be noticed much. they are very nice looking seats Re: Mudhole Project X Two Tone Reel Seat Question

I've used quite a few Channel lock Pac Bay spinning seats for an inshore guide and they aren't that heavy. I seriously doubt this seat would be any heavier.
They are some great looking seats though and I wouldn't for one second think about not using one. Re: Mudhole Project X Two Tone Reel Seat Question

The new 18mm size Project X seat is the same weight as the Pac Bay Channel lock in a 17mm (1.40 oz). A comparable graphite 18mm seat is 1.1 oz in the hand it is very difficult to tell that there is a difference.

Thinking about getting the Size 16 reel seat for my Castaway 842 blank, looks like it will fit snug in the area I plan install the reel seat. Thanks for the input guys. I will keep you posted Re: Mudhole Project X Two Tone Reel Seat Question

Keep in mind that a size 16 is pretty small and after a day' fishing you may find your hand cramping. When it comes down to reel seats, I find the 18's far more comfortable even a light rods. Good advice but I hold the rod differently than others. My reel sits between my pinky and ring finger. I do this because of my liking to stay in contact with my blank. Less reel seat the better in my builds Re: Mudhole Project X Two Tone Reel Seat Question
