Has anyone used the Cason Color Preserver for feather inlays? I just ordered some of the non-water based for my feather inlays. Thanks for any feedback. Ron Gaddy

Ron, i just received the same non-water based Casons formula. I used it on Guide wraps last Night for the first time. Really nice product, i have not used it on Inlays however. I have always used Flex coat for Inlays, it works well for me. i will try the Casons on some scrap feathers and see how it works out. Cheers!!! ....Wayne

Thanks Wayne, I appreciate the feedback. I am fairly new at Rodbuilding, but having a blast. I'm trying out different products to see what works for me. I started with the Flex Coat CP and it does work pretty good.

I used the Cason's solvent based preserver on feather inlays. Works GREAT! I was able to do 3 layers of feathers at one time. When it starts to tack up I use a bodkin to wet it out again. It wicks right into the feathers making them workable again. I'm by no means an expert at feather inlays but I like this product much better than the other methods I've tried.

Thanks for the post Lane!

Both of our CP formulas are crystal clear so one will not have to worry about the white hazing that can build up when several applications are used
like in feather inlays. I don't do much feather work but our testers did not discover any adverse effects with either formula but I've been told the water-based product was prefered because it doesnt set up as fast.

We recommend the solvent based product for use on silk threads however.

I have been using the solvent version and water version. Just depends on what I am doing with feathers as to which I use. I use the solvent version the most because it does dry faster.
