Hello

I have a flyrod that i need to give varnish.
I have used flexcote up till now, but i am considering other alternatives.
So if you have an alternativ, non 2 component, non toxic varnis that will last long with a good finish, please let med know.

Best regards
Martin Honoré

Gudebrod and Rod Dancer have some one part water cleanup varnish products on the market that may work. I know Netcraft has some, and I'm sure many of the sponsors on the left may carry some as well.

Spar varnish. You'll need several coats but it will work very well. I use it all the time on bamboo rods / silk thread.

PermaGloss or Lumaseal. Both are 1-part urethane finishes.

There is a new product being debuted at the Expo in February which, assuming it lives up to the maker's claims, could become the new standard in thread coatings, effectively making epoxy obsolete for that purpose.
