Being relatively new to rod building I'm hoping to get some help finding a blank. I want to duplicate a Hardy glass 5' #2 fly rod. I want to build two of them for my kids to use to catch creek chubs in the stream behind my house. Some how two kids fighting over my $300 rod in an over grown stream doesn't sit well with me. I haven't gotten far enough in this hobby to do any ccs yet or to fully understand it but it is a true full flex rod. The cheaper the better as I will probably have to build replacements by mid summer.
Thank you for any and all help. Re: Need help with a blank

Contact Dan Craft. I built a 6'6" #6 for a 5yr old. Spent $20.

As Spencer said, a Lamiglas fiberglass fly rods would be a good start:
[www.mudhole.com] If you willing to try a more moderate action of a graphite fly blank, a complete MHX fly kit 6’6†2wt for less $81 would be a great starter rod for your children can be purchased at: [www.mudhole.com] Regards. We at SAREP Youth Fly Fishing Program have been building 6ft multi weight rods with reduced handle dimensions just for kids.We have been using the top 2 sections of a 3 piece 9ft 5wt Pac Bay Tradition blank We load it up with a 6wt line for newbies. They can throw 15-20ft very quickly. I and other adults have fished it all day with a 3 or 4wt line. Turned out to be a nice starter or brookie rod.

Scott,
An option would be to build on a 5' to 6' UL spinning blank. Reverse mount a light graphite spinning reel seat with grip. Blank cost will be less than 20$ and with 4-5 guides will throw a 4 or 5 weight easily. Eugene Moore Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
