Coloring PG

I've read most all of the past posts on painting rods and saw one mention of using a pigment to color PG and applying to an un-finished rod. Have any of you done this before? It seems to be the easiest way to change the color of the rod while also protecting the finished product. I'm wanting to find the best way to change colors of the rod mainly to gain experience. Thanks......Ron

Tinting PG is not a problem, just do not use too much pigment. Also it will be translucent, you will not be able to get PG to be opaque.

I've added pigment to Lumiseal which is similar to PG. It's not going to provide you with an opaque finish but rather a very translucent finish. In essence you'll be tinting the rod not painting it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Interesting......is that the way rod manufacturers get the different color rods that have transparent colors? The G Loomis burgandy comes to mind. Seems like you could get some interesting colors going with a different opaque color under the tinted PG....if weight wasn't a factor. I see experiments in my future. Thanks fir the info......not really what I wanted to hear but opens up some options. I guess paint is the only way to get solid opaque colors.
